Trail Running in Norway

I’ve complained about running almost my whole life, but now I’m getting addicted to it. I started running in March while I was home for a few weeks in Colorado, and I had my most fun run when I got caught in a white out blizzard after I left the house on a bluebird spring day. I’ve never enjoyed running all that much before, but I guess dramatic weather makes it way more interesting. And now that I’m back in Norway, I get to run on some really gorgeous trails that are surrounded by thick forests and carpets of lush green moss. The snow is melting and the ground is sopping wet, so every time I go out I have a valid excuse to play in the mud.

My wife, Rannveig Aamodt, humored me the other day and modeled for a test shoot, with the result appearing below. I’ve got some cool ideas for some trail running photos I’d like to make in the next couple of weeks, so if I can motivate, maybe I’ll get more photos online.

Nathan Welton - Thanks, Jeff :)

Nathan Welton - hey joe, thanks for visiting. the shot is lit with two flashes, one on either side and pretty much pointed directly toward each other. as for colors… ha! that’s always a tough call! we had red, purple and blue. purple wouldn’t have been visible enough, red would have been obnoxious, and blue just fit, especially with the grey/blue sky in the background. when i’m not making arbitrary judgements like that i think about the color wheel, and how colors fit together.

joe pyle - great shot, man! a few q’s-
1. did you strobe this? if so, great placement! if not, way to watch the light!
2. how do you decide what color the model should wear. I have the worst time deciding…

Cheers!
